President Lyndon Johnson Needs Some New Pants

On August 9, 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson called the Haggar clothing company to order six pairs of pants, with very specific (and sometimes graphic!) instructions, heard in this audio from The Miller Center’s Presidential Recordings Program, animated by the Web site Put This On.

"The crotch down where your nuts hang is always a little too tight, so when you make ‘em up, give me an inch so I can take ‘em out there because they cut me, it’s like riding a wire fence."
Between 1940 and 1973, the phone calls of Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon were all recorded, though this is likely the only example to include the phrase “bunghole.”
